Original reading - Light upon the World

Eternal Teacher,
Wondrous Creator,
As the brightness of this day gives way to the coming darkness,
Shine Your divine light upon the world
To sustain its essential well-being
And to illuminate our very souls
So that Your teachings will be for us a beacon
That will lead us to wisdom and insight,
Consideration and compassion,
Acceptance and understanding.
We have, in recent weeks,
Confessed our failings so that we can reach for our highest potential.
We have connected with nature in order to more clearly see
Our place and our role on this planet we call home.
We have ended and begun the reading of a sacred scroll
That continues to guide us from one day to another.
Be with us as we strive to engender unity and oneness
Among the peoples of the earth
So that Your Oneness will envelop us all
With love and with hope.
