Eternal Companion,

Our shelter and refuge,

Walk with us at this time of change 

As the days grow shorter

And the leaves change color

And as we turn our focus 

From inside of ourselves 

To the world outside of us

So that we will notice, even more than usual, 

The wonders of creation

And the miracle of our very existence

Evening to evening. 

Help us to feel the rhythm of nature

And to recognize how much we are part

Of that continuous cadence 

That establishes the underlying tempo of our lives.  

As we reside within the spaces of Your holy handiwork,

May we fashion communities 

That will tread the path of justice and love 

So that we will remain in step

With Your wisdom 

And bask in Your light and peace. 

Heartbeat - For the 5784 High Holy Days - September 22, 2023

Heartbeat of Existence,

You have infused our lives 

With interconnections 

Among living beings 

And with our environment: 

Stars, Sun, and Moon, 

Land, Oceans, Seas, Rivers and Lakes

Forests and gardens

Homes in which we dwell 

Buildings that contain provisions for our survival 

Holy spaces where we gather for spiritual contemplation 

Whether within rooms with ornate walls and ceilings to inspire us

Or out in nature where miracles transpire every moment. 

Sometimes we miss the point of our place 

In this network that envelops us. 

The answer, we may believe, is in what we sense from the world outside.

That is only partially true. 

For the remainder of our purpose, 

We need only look inside

Where our openness, humility, and wonder reside

and work in concert

To fashion our response 

To the gifts of this amazing life. 

May our heart beat with a rhythm

Filled with spirit and hope

So that our constant becoming 

Will enhance the circle of creation 

That is renewed every single day.

God of our days, 

As we stand at the threshold of a new year,

With sunsets and sunrises full of beauty and wonder

Yet to behold, 

Direct our steps towards the path that we have learned

As members of a KEHILAH K’DOSHAH, 

A Holy Community. 

Help us to make the coming months a time of

Acceptance, Bravery, Cooperation, and Dedication 

Fulfillment, Enlightenment, Growth, and Humility 

Insight, Joy and Knowledge

Love, Meaning and Nurturing

Opportunity, Persistence and Renewal

Service, Thankfulness, and Understanding 

Vision, Wisdom and Youthfulness.

May we discover our own ways to shape 5784

Into a year of health, happiness, and hope

Leading us to become one within the human family

As You, Eternal God, are One.

And to promote peace among us. 

May Your wisdom become ours 

So that we will act in ways that 

Engender understanding and harmony, 

Confidence and hope. 

Direct our path towards oneness

Among us 

To reflect the Oneness

Gracious Creator,

Source of awe and wonder,

Spread the light of Your presence 

Over us 

And within us 

So that we will feel Your protection at night 

And sense Your shelter during the day. 

As You are our helper, 

May we extend our hands to offer support 

To all in need of courage and strength.

As You are our teacher,

May we be guides and mentors

For our peers and for our children 

So that they may learn from

Our experience 

And so that we may be touched by their vision.

Bless us with love and hope, 

So that Your Oneness will become

Our unity 

And our hope 

Now and in the days to come.
